About Stephen P. Byers

Stephen P. Byers a.k.a. "The Book Doctor" was born in Montreal, Quebec in 1924. He served in World War II with the Canadian Army in Europe and was wounded in action.

After earning a Civil Engineer degree from McGill University in 1949, he devoted his working years to industrial construction. He participated in a wide variety of projects in Canada until 1972 when he relocated to Kansas City to work on a major commercial project in Missouri. Sixteen years later he retired to Bella Vista, Arkansas where he became interested in storytelling and writing. In 2003, he relocated to Lowell, Arkansas.

In 1948, he married Mary Elspeth Rankine. They have four children and six grandchildren.

Stephen self-published six books, but has now retired from active writing. For ten years from 1994 through 2005, he presented Creative Writing Workshops at public libraries in Arkansas, Missouri, Oklahoma and Kansas. The workshops were successful and popular. He continues his study of Creative Writing through the Book Doctor weekly articles that are published and archived exclusively on the Banyon Network. He welcomes questions and comments from readers everywhere. “The great pleasure in my life now that I am retired,” he says, “is helping aspiring writers achieve their goals.” He maintains a Submission Form on his site where readers may contact him.
