Attack Of The Humboldt Squid

IT was a dreary night; smog was rolling in on the harbor in the Sea Of Cortez in Western Mexico. Jet Jackson was preparing a net to catch some fish he pulled heavily on the net something had gotten into the net. Jet thought just another day and it was probably a baby shark. The sharks often got tangled in the mess of fish that swam in schools, but as Jet pulled up the net to empty his fish onto the boat, as Jet reached over, a giant leg grabbed Jet by the neck and pulled him overboard. The sucker cups stuck to Jet’s body and he was dragged underneath the murky water he gasped, but only water went into his throat. And then the giant squid’s long tentacles the sharp beak like hook which was near the squids head tore Jet apart and like a shark to a fish. Other packs of sharks there began a feeding frenzy. But while a six foot Tiger Shark was a feeding a giant Humboldt Squid fifty feet and the long tentacles of the squid tore the baby shark like a calf or young lamb. With its razor sharp beak. All the carcass was left was a black ink squirted on the surfaced on the sea. . The Humboldt Squid had struck again it had totally devoured the helpless Jet Jackson. Later that night a call was heard on the loud speaker of an empty boat and the Coast Guard pulled what was left of Jet’s boat and Jet’s head. And body was left floating on the surface... “What happened do you think” asked Captain Maxwell Hughes? And then they found a leg they finally figured who the boater was, because his feet and torso also showed up torn up like shrapnel. ‘Dr Maxwell said “We’ll it could. Be that he fell in and under the boat” ‘Yeah said his assistant Dave Cassinger ‘That’s a good possibility” They pulled up the legs and torso and found in his pocket a drivers license was in his pocket. They found Jet’s boat and another boaters ID license as well. Jet Jackson’s boaters friends and family gave a positive ID even though the squids tentacles had eaten half Jet’s face .Jet’s boat which had license plate was towed ashore and examined. SGT Peter Paulkins examined the body and got on the radio. He said “to George Wiggens that “it looked eerily like a shark attack. . . Theresa Jones an autopsy specialist was baffled at first, and as she viewed the pieces of the body she found something unusual. She found a piece of the Giant Squids beak that had broken off and embedded itself into his skin. “What could this be? ‘ She pondered. It was no Great White attack the bite marks was too small... She said to herself scratching her head “it looks like a piece of fish or an octopus.” But these were pieces were from a squid she concluded. She knew it was a squid, but which one and how big? Meanwhile Jet’s head, torso and one leg which were left intact had been given to the chief medical examiner. But Theresa had a bad filling in the pit of her stomach that this was no shark attack. This was a squid attack. Theresa had another thought. She had studied The Humboldt Squid., and received numerous reports of attacks from Humboldt Squid on whales and dolphins in the Mexican Bay of the Sea Of Cortez. .

For instance one guy who was swimming in The Sea of Cortez was apparently sucked under and mauled by a Giant Squid. It had torn into him leaving massive wounds and scarring. The blood attracted more squid and a few sharks. Someone had seen another attack from a distant boat. The sailor said a” pinkish legs grabbed his friend Jeff Huffan from his boat and killed him. He reported it, but no-one believed him and said he was crazy and that a shark had gotten him .But they could have been telling the truth, or were they mistaken?

People had seen the Lockness Monster was this just another tail? There was a guy in the news that lived a Humboldt Squid attack by punching the Giant squid of fifty feet long in the eye and the squid let him go squirting ink as it left. The boater swam to his boat ‘But where was he? The guy Jeff Huffman s was a drug user and alcoholic. He lived on drama and folk tales. But he being the only survivors in a string of attacks and reports was quite daunting... The Giant Squid was thought to be a wives tale. After all Theresa Jones had concluded that squid and large squid were docile, creatures, but very intelligent... Theresa said to her boss Jim Hader that giant squid attacks didn’t add up and that these new reports were hoax and lies to get attention. But the wounds were real and not a fairy tail she muttered sadly to herself. Indeed the vicious adult Giant Squid or Humboldt Squid were angry but how, why and if she thought had they become vicious and angry? Their vast intelligence was a force to be reckoned with Theresa and others Biologist wondered why they had come to the surface the giant Humboldt Squid live hundreds of feet under water? It was then reported in the newspaper and on the TV news station. ‘Theresa got on the phone with Marine Biologist Dayle Hinson. She told her about it and the Marine Biologist agreed to do a study on live squid taken from The Sea of Cortez

Then the next day Jim Hader got the news and it wasn’t good. . How many Giant Humboldt’s are we looking at? Screamed Jim Hader to Theresa. ‘I don’t know maybe a few thousand?” said Theresa. Jim said that’s an epidemic’ we should have kept this quiet” “But it has already leaked through our new department” said Theresa angrily. ‘Don’t let it happen again!” screamed Hader into the phone. Theresa said “The Humboldt Squid seem to reproduce quickly said Theresa mildly. Theresa replied ‘They must think sharks and humans are bate or their only source of food” ‘They must have brains to think that we are inferior and not a challenge to catch.” But Jim interrupted ‘How could they?” ‘”I have an idea why? “ she said meekly “We do use squid as bate for fisherman and the ink for our own use in pens maybe it’s family oriented and wants to protect it’s young” Just then Dayle Hinson called Theresa . She said ‘I gotta go!” to Hadar. ‘Keep me informed” he said loudly. She hung up. Dayle Hinson was on the phone “Great news!” ‘

We have examined the brain of a squid, and found its brain matter to be consistent with a chimpanzee’s brain I’ll send the final results to the lab and do some more tests on The Humboldt Squid tomorrow”. Dayle said this is a new idea and this amount of scientific study on Humboldt’s has never been done. Dayle continued ”’The Squids or Mollusks probably send and use hectograph of distress, as well as when it’s stressed it inks out to warn other squid’ This was no ordinary attack situation, this was payback” said Hinson sadly.” We are essentially killing their young, and they are smart enough to know it.” Their brains have been located in their tentacles’ ‘’The reason for the attacks” Hinson concluded is that the fisherman use the smaller squid as bate” Dayle said “But haven’t they been fishing in The Sea Of Cortez for years? ‘Yes” said Dayle rather disturbed. But they have learned over the years that we are their enemy and we are their nemesis, they are smart and angry and that we are killing them”

“‘How big are they? Asked Theresa. These Squid are known to be well over fifty feet in length “said Dayle sadly. “That is big!” yelled Theresa into the phone“They are that big according to the marks on the body’s and the many male fisherman‘s reports who daily risked their lives fishing in The Sea Of Cortez and the many complaints and the measurements of Giant Squid attacks, that length seems to be a close measurement and correlation “‘How do we stop it? Asked Theresa. “I really don’t know” said Dayle mildly. ‘We can’t stop their livelihood from fishing, so how do we protect the people?” asked Theresa ”I know” said Dayle we need to examine and study this creature further and learn from them” ‘Said Dayle confidently. Dayle said “Our initial tests prove and we have done it we can make a squid go through a maze to find a shrimp just like a rat.” These Humboldt Squid may attack in numbers we went out at night last night, and found over a hundred in a three mile radius.” Then the next day Dayle Hinson took a sample of DNA from a captured Humboldt Squid. She put it under a microscope and said “Hmm, I wonder why their blood cells are green and glowing no doubt!” She called Jim Hader with the news. ‘We got a live one!” she yelled the blood cells of the Humboldt Squid glow and the insides have a powerful aroma like gasoline!” ‘Dayle said “It has something to do with the Squids genes.”’

“Very interesting Dayle peered over her desk at her files and grabbed one and opened and began to read it. She said ‘”You had better sit down” I have done the works of a genius I have been working on a clone of Squids and can almost use a dead squids reproductive organs on a petri dish and can grow another squid using a females eggs. Dayle rubbed her head and said ‘Some other fisherman near Mexico has also spotted a large Humboldt Squid. Then Dayle screamed and the phone went dead. A live Humboldt had grabbed her arm and took a chunk out of it. Dayle screamed and shook her arm violently and forcefully. Then the Humboldt devoured her hand. Dayle screamed ad slammed it against a table and got free. The squid’s inked into Dayles eye and she ran for the faucet. In the meantime it crawled across the room with its long tentacles. Most squid needed water, but this one was a genetic mutate and a clone and had manifested itself with gills and lungs like a walking catfish. It could travel several feet and then it would die. The squid was under a table as Dayle called security she walked to the door and a tentacle grabbed her leg, and began to bite her foot, but she shook it off and stomped on the creature’s head and she crushed the head down with her foot, with a giant crunch! Then Dayle stuck it on the table to dissect it, she cut into where her foot was, and then cut into the brain and cells that were in its tentacles. She was bleeding, but wrapped her hand in a towel she still could use the right hand, because the left was mangled. And would need stitches. She wanted to dissect the creature now, and was curious and quite frightened, but she knew she had to get to the bottom of it. ‘Why had they become aggressive? Then she left for the hospital. Meanwhile the police were at the scene. “Put 1st class Winford said “What should we do with the squid?” We need to keep them as evidence” said another PVT Hickens Then another one said “No let’s release them to the wild and into the Bay and let them live” They didn’t know the story. They thought that this was all a freak accident” she probably cut her hand on some glass” said another.

Then being near the home of the squid in Eastern Texas near The Sea of Cortez Not knowing the truth the released the genetically altered squid into the Sea Of Cortez...
“I guess your right” said Ted Hummer another cop. Poor things” said another. They stared down at them. Then they took evidence and instead of sealing the evidence and researching the facts, the police took the baby squid that were genetically mutated and vicious and they took them, as evidence not knowing that this tampering with evidence and lack of knowledge would cause many problems. The police threw the live baby Humboldt Squid into the sea. Then their supervisors asked’ Where are the squid taken from the scene?” ‘We dumped them into the Cortez” said the nervous PVT Hickens. ‘You what?” yelled LT Johnson. ‘You morons!”‘ These were genetically mutated and vicious they caused great harm to Mrs. Hinson and could be very dangerous!” ‘Too late now” said Hickens. ‘We’ll your fired!” yelled the LT Johnson. “Pack your stuff and leave!” “You have made a grave mistake!”‘ Now the squid’s will reproduce” In the Sea of Cortez the male and female squid’s mated. These new squid were vivacious and vicious. They had more superior brain power. ‘’LT Johnson got on the phone. He said, “We need everyone including the entire local fisherman right away to catch the genetically mutated squid.” “How can we tell between the mutated and the regular?” asked Eric Mandan a local marine fisheries owner. “‘Just bring a spot light and shine it into the ocean and whatever glows is a mutant squid, and must be captured and killed” ‘We’ll start at nine tonight, and work through the night because the squid are nocturnal” So a fleet of twenty ships went out into the Sea Of Cortez. They shined the light into the water, but stopped’ we can’t shine deep enough!” Yelled Larry a fisherman. “I know” said another fisherman”Lets use shrimp as bate and attract them to the surface.” ‘Good idea! They yelled. ‘Be quiet!” yelled Larry “you’ll scare them!” Sorry! He said irritated

Soon thirty Giant Humboldt Squid came to the surface. The fisherman got a net and caught ten of them and on the boat they shined their lights on them and when they glowed they were immediately chopped up. Then they decided to kill all the squid captured because they didn’t know male from female or if they had mated. ‘Black ink squirted out of the squid and into the boat. Larry scooped the squid ink and threw it into the ocean. Bad idea” yelled Timmy. But it was too late a squid that saw its mother killed, and knew the ink was its baby’s blood it came to the surface, and it was a mutated squid it had grown to sixty feet long. It grabbed Timmy Larry’s mate by the face and pulled him in. Larry tried to grab him by the legs, but the squid was too strong it dragged him overboard and was eating Timmy’s face crushing him. ‘Ow! help!” he yelled it crunching his bones. The squid took him to his death in the murky water and it left was a trail of ink. Then it swam along side the boat with grace very large and with twelve legs because it had mutated into a super squid. Larry watched it circle the boat and then it went under. Larry was scared silly. Then Larry who wanted to capture it bated the net thinking “Maybe I can lure it into the net and capture and kill it.” But as he reached for a shrimp Larry cut his thumb on a shrimps head ‘Ouch!” he said then he bled. Into the water as he leaned over trying to get a bandage for his finger. As the others were ten miles away. The squid sensing and knowing it was outnumbered left the scene, but for how long? The other came and provided fresh water to rinse out his thumb and decided intelligently to not let any ink into the water or blood, that it attracted them.

They Coast Guard had a fish-Finder and a giant mutated Humboldt squid was beeping on the radar and the Fish Finder told them that the squid was under the boat ‘It’s nearby whatever it is? Said Ted Kennedy, a sergeant Are you okay” he asked Larry ‘Fine thanks’ he said eagerly. Then Larry watching for the squids return saw the ticks on the Fish Finder getting stronger and stronger stating that there was a strong presence of Squid or something else possible a shark. The Fish Finder the others thought it was a school of Snapper. Larry yelled ‘I’ll try to capture it” As Larry put on his gloves on, and then a giant mutated squid swam to the surface again and as Larry bent over the water Larry saw the ticks getting stronger, and stronger and he knew that it was close but he didn’t know that it was right there. Larry indeed feared the worst that it had returned again. Then all of a sudden the squid jumped out of the water and grabbed Larry’s arm as he leaned over looking into the murky depth of the sea., a gigantic squid threw it’s tentacles around Larry He yelled and then it tore Larry’s right arm off. And some of the officers from the Coast Guard nearby yelled “No!” nearby some others yelled at Larry ‘What happened?” They couldn’t believe their eyes. ’But there was silence and only static. On the Fish Finder the machine felt nothing and it was silent. Then Jeff Mayberry leaned over to see what it was, that grabbed Larry, and as he leaned over to throw a net in and caught the giant Squid in his net and as he tried to pull it up it dragged Jeff went overboard. He. The other boats had arrived and Larry lay bleeding grabbed his CB Radio with his good arm and yelled on his radio his location for help ‘I’ve been hurt badly, and Jeffrey is gone presumable dead, because I saw it pull him over” What’s it?” they asked. “A giant squid” he said sadly. “Then Larry said ’I need a helicopter to the hospital immediately I’m bleeding heavily!”... He said despondent .The others had seen the damage done to Larry and they knew Jeffrey was dead and Larry could follow. They called the Coast Guard to take him further inland and then a Medivac helicopter would followed. They knew it was an emergency and that they were racing to save Larry’s life. Meanwhile in the Sea Of Cortez the mutant Humboldt squid lurked for its next prey. It had chewed Jeffrey to pieces and sharks came around but a squid grabbed a baby three foot shark and put its arms around its neck and broke its neck... The squid watched for the next opportunity to do further damage and eat its new prey humans and also to get even. The Giant squids lurked below the water and were indeed hungry for blood. Sgt Trench locked into the facts of the disappearance as a detective would. He thoroughly scope out the investigation. The fisherman that saw the attack recounted the events with little effort the storm of giant squid was frightening..

The detective said roughly with his black top hat and he lowered the brim as he spoke. “‘Just use squid, squids blood and ink to drive those squid mad then use a net and with twenty or so people pull it out of the water” ‘Easier said then done” said Peter Jones a lowly underpaid and overqualified fisherman. Then Pat Hoffman ran into the room and yelled loudly” An oil spill happened, and toxic waste from the nuclear plant had leaked into The Sea of Cortez. “He stopped and wiped the sweat dripping like rain droplets from his head. They found a ten foot shark dead and also a ten foot squid was beached just off the coast” he said this hysterically and had to breathe for he was out of breathe he brought out an inhaler and wheezed and squirted the life giver into his mouth..

‘The detective said “Does that mean the squid, sharks and other marine animals will grow?” ‘No said Pat” Just the biologically changed squid will increase in size and strength.” Then Pat yelled to ten concerned fisherman “gear up, we got a fight on our hands” They geared up and whispered to one another “I don’t know how we can get these super squid, it’s all on our hands.” Then Pat and his crew got on a twelve foot Sea worthy boat called The Northeasterner. “We’ll catch them!” said James and a few others. But Pat knew many could die trying and some relayed some information that the scared should go home because ‘They didn’t need any cowards.” So five got off the vessel a few had young children others were just scared out of their minds. As they prepared to leave on the North Easterner Then they pulled the ropes and untied the rudders and headed out to sea. That night ten went on board and many knew they might not return. It was six Pm and the night crew knew they had all night to work. At Seven ten Pm the crew started to drop the nets filled with shrimp and dead squid. Humboldt Squid were very intelligent like dolphins, and could tell its young from the smell. A Humboldt

Squid had approximately a thousand babied in one batch and many were emptied into the sea on their own to survive, but the mothers stayed with the babies for a few hours after birth. Then they knew that they were on their own. Their were many squid who laid their eggs in the ocean and mostly in The Sea of Cortez. They knew that the squid were territorial, and that the genetically altered squid were angry for being captured and experimented on. They had proven so in the lab by inking out and sometimes into the scientist eyes. The head scientist and Biologist Dr Howard Deen banked on their territoriality and love for each other like a school of fish he thought to himself These mutated ones were mean, volatile and hungry and smart from the past hundred years of evolving and their brains being altered. The Giant Hum bolts would follow the trail of shrimp to the surface and then he thought ‘We’ll nab them!”. He also knew if the genetically altered squid knew that it was their young being captured and used for bait, the rest would follow, and maybe they could capture them before reproducing. .The Squid would be angry and they would have to fight for their very lives. But a body washed up, the corner thought the oil had poisoned him, but they soon realized that something had chewed the man. “Possible a shark” But the others knew what it was. At eight the next night Dr Howard Deen and the fisherman Fred Wilcox,David Grey and the rest began their journey and saw small squid come up to feed on the shrimp. So did a number of sharks, Nurse Sharks and one Great White. He and the rest knew that the small squid were not the genetically engineered ones, the giant Hum bolts. They would come later.

These he thought were regular squid the genetically engineered ones were hostile and mean, and would try to get to the fisherman into the water to kill and eat the fisherman. The Squid had learned from experimentation how to think and reason. The toxic chemicals went into their brain and mutated their brain. They also mutated their vital organs this had caused their brains and organs to get bigger... At eight Pm a noise sounded it was the captain honking the horn, he had spotted what appeared to be some Humboldt’s The fisherman made a pass and signaled that a few were right in the area. They circled again and then began dropping the nets in a circle.

The fisherman caught two eight hundred pound Humboldt’s and their nets almost broke, but all the men who weren’t strong enough to get one on board they finally gave up decided to tow it onto the barge with a rope.

Then they lifted the Squid onto the barge with the Giant Humboldt onto the boat the squid was a mere twenty feet long. The waves were kicking in and all the weight almost pulled half the boat under. Then Fisherman Fred Wilcox said “Whoa!” ‘Just leave it up there, just then the rigging’s broke and the giant squid broke the mast and fell onto the boat killing one fisherman. Fred yelled “We can’t hold one on board, how can we get the rest?” Then David Grey went close to the squid and tripped over a tentacle and he got caught in the squid’s way the squid grabbed his body with his tentacles and pulled him into its mouth. Then the sounds of bone crushing could be heard and he was eaten by its powerful beaklike mouth. Then a fisherman angry that his friend had just perished went over and began to chop the long tentacle limbs with a Hachette .The Squid moved around to see what was happening and caught another fisherman too and he used his long tentacles and squeezed him until he crushed the mans internal organs and he died too. Then the captain sounded the horn and yelled in the microphone “were beat!” just dump them back into the water” So the crew drooped the squid into the ocean and the ropes and nets holding them was breaking, and the nets were ruined. Just then a giant squid came to the surface and a fisherman pulled a gun and shot the giant squid in its large eye. The squid died and its ink poured out into the ocean turning the ocean black. Then the captain said to Brian Mc- Gracy” The only choice we have is to bait a shark tank and catch then individually capture each in a shark cage. that’s the only thing that will hold them.’ But we need three riggings tied to the box to hold a possible one ton animal” Then the captain said “Let’s give it a try” so they put some squid and three large pieces of fish. Then some sharks were attracted to it, but the fisherman closed the cage door from a mechanically operated swing door... Then it was 9pm it was night and they had the boat light’s on to see into the water and to watch... Then the radar picked up a large animal the size of a car approaching, and they knew, that this was no ordinary school of fish, this was a giant squid. The captain’s Fred Wilcox and David Grey went on the speaker saying ‘We have movement from a giant squid be on the look-out” Then a large tentacle reached out and grabbed two sailors one in each tentacle. The others grabbed an axe and as the squid pulled on him, he was grabbing the boat with all his might he chopped the tentacle holding a sailor and the squid let go of the other quickly and ink was everywhere on the boat
.Then Tricplopas, a name they just made up because it only had one huge whale hole of an eye regenerated the severed tentacle in a minute and was sitting under the boat holding on to it.and destroying the flooring . “Whoa!” yelled the crew as Triclopas mangled the boat tilting it back and forth. and pulling it under. ‘Were going to drown!” yelled the captain. ‘Our only hope is to start the engines and go” So the captain started the engine, but it wouldn’t move. Triclopas had it firmly in its grip. Then the captain had an idea. ‘Let’s blow the sucker up” ‘but Fred said “How can we do that without blowing the crew and the boat?” We can’t” he said Then the captain said “I know what we’ll do we’ll the captain said scratching his beard”‘We can use the other motor and chop it to pieces under the boat.” Then we’ll find the nest and blow those bastards to smithereens!”

So the captain untied the rudders and let the ropes from the bottom of the boat and put on the reserve it worked there was a giant splash and the boat nearly toppled over. But the proof was several pieces of cut up squid floated to the surface. And there was a giant ink pool in the water.

Then the radar bleeped again more ofthe squid were coming to the rescue and fast. Then the captain set an ambush for the squid. The captain said ‘Quick tie some TNT to a Bowie and make a perimeter around the boat about ten feet away. “” When the giant squid get right to the bow press the button and let err rip. ‘We’ll blow those creatures up and save the entire fisherman in The Sea of Cortez!” So the plans were set and on cue the squid sensing danger and in anger started to come in droves of thousands. The ink in the water the eco system that helps squid communicate sent them on an angry rampage. Twenty feet” said the captain and then he said ‘Fifteen” then he said” Ten feet Now!” But the explosives didn’t detonate. Then the captain in rage threw a piece of TNT into the water and blew a squid that had come to the surface. ‘Are you crazy?” yelled Tim Drakes. ‘This will only make them angry and things will be much worse” Then the captain yelled ‘Who’s the fool that didn’t attach the firing mechanism to the TNT?” Then they all said “Not me” But the captain reprimanded Peter Jones for his lack of ingenuity. Then the captain said, let’s move fast, their coming!” So the captain brought up the anchors and they began to go home, most were up all night and it was 4am. Then Peter said “I can lure them and try to detonate again.” ‘How do we know they even work?” Asked another. “We’ll give me one more chance okay?” So the captain made a circle and they connected the TNT in a circle in a circle hoping they would find them and have them follow so they could blow them up. “Let’s chum with fish and squid pieces and show then we mean business” Another said “Yeah we’ll nail those suckers!” So the crew set up a perimeter of TNT and the crew was ordered to chum, and to splash and make as much noise as possible. Then the radar picked up ten large masses coming towards the boat. ‘That’s them!” said the captain. The squid were coming closer and closer to feed on human flesh. But as they got within ten feet the Captain ordered to detonate and it exploded killing all ten and there was a giant blast and fish and squid guts covered the crew and the water .” Yes!” they laughed slapped hands and whistled. Then they became somber, because there was a mess of Giant squid and they were on their way to kill them all then a giant tentacle reached out, and grabbed a crew member by the leg and pulled his feet from under him. The captain yelled ‘Man overboard!” Our best crew member is gone and presumable dead” The sailors sat and stared into the murky water in remembrance ‘This means War! The crowed yelled. The captain asked his first mate James, “How do we defeat them?” ‘Let’s put poisoned bate in the water that will kill them” he said scratching his overgrown beard. So they baited the fish and squid with a poison and watched as the squid came in a big mass and circled the boat like piranha the squid gulped the poisoned meat up and then it was quiet ten minutes passed and within the hour, there were squid dead floating on the surface of the water and some dead fish and a few sharks too. Then the captain said “We must poison the rest around their nest there is still more” ‘Where do they nest”?” asked Fred. ‘

Out near the estuary’s. Said another so they located a possible sight, and concluded it was their breeding ground and the radar ticked and all the squid were by their nests and then a giant squid reached up and overturned the boat it was a thirty foot squid and all the survivors paddled their way to shore. Then a member of the crew felt a tug on his leg and he was pulled under by a squid and drowned. Then another felt a sharp pain in his leg and arm and he realized that his body had been chewed and mutilated.

The rest of the crew made it back was stranded on an island with giant squid in the water. Then the captain who survived the ordeal said “I know we killed more than they first thought, but their still out there!” The captain said we are stranded with no food, water, and the explosives are all wet!” “What do we do? Asked Scott Fairbanks. Then a bottle of poison and some dead squid that had been poisoned. Came ashore. ‘They are cannibals and will even eat their young.” ‘Let’s bait the dead squid and kill all the males and then they can’t procreate”’ after all the males are the violent and dangerous the females will also die when poisoned food is brought to them” ‘Good idea” So they lost no time and baited the squid and left-over fish. Then they threw them into the water and the water was dark black with the carnivorous creatures ‘Then a noise was heard it was a boat! Then the crew waved and a boat came to the island and rescued them all that had survived. Then as the crew boarded, the squid were dying and half-dead on the water later that day as the boat went home a few female squid were floating on the water too. They had gotten some of the poisoned meat, but not all were dead.. Two weeks went by and no squid attacks were reported. But unfortunately the squids had reproduced, and their were more growing in The Sea of Cortez. Were they really gone? The journey had just begun and ended the fisherman on The Sea Of Cortez hoped and prayed that all the squid were dead but the end was yet to come. The next evening there was another incident as a fisherman anchored his boat a squid grabbed him from the boat “Help!” But it was too late, and his head bobbed in the water the coroner Dr David Johnson Mavis got the news a boat nearby saw it and a family swimming in the Sea found the head bobbing on the water. The coroner got news that the body had washed up. “Not another squid attack!” said Dr Mavis to Dr Rick Stevenson.. We must catch a few and keep them and a lab and watch them grow” said Mavis grunting “What a pity’ said Stevenson. So that night they went out into the Sea of Cortez to catch a medium sized squid ‘Not too big’ they said, “because we cannot handle a large one more or less drag it back to the shore our riggings can’t take it” So they baited the area with shrimp and small squid pieces. In minutes the cannibals were eating and a great White took out a few smaller Hunbolt Squid. The larger ones sensing danger squeezed the ten foot Great White until it let go, but the squid had died. .” I see a ten footer, maybe we can catch it!” Then it surfaced and tried to grab Stevenson. Then Dr Stevenson shot into the water his 44 revolver and hit a giant squid and ink poured out, a bled ink and it rolled over, then Stevenson hit it in the heart. Seven times it was hit then it moaned and rolled over dead. Then Stevenson‘Be careful not to slip“ this time said Stevenson their were fish guts and ink everywhere. “Okay s take them alive” I see a ten footer, maybe we can catch it!” ‘ They put a matt with a net and caught it and used the ropes and mat to lift the giant creature. Then they examined it and said’We got a female” “Lets get a male too” said Stevenson they caught four more female and then a twelve foot male.

It was too big to haul so they tried to put a rope around it, but it twitched and turned. Then Stevenson said we can add another rigging” so they used the huge mast of the boat and carried the creature in the air. ‘We must hurry” he said, “Or it will die” So they went full speed and the creature moved swaying the boat from side to side. They made it in ten minutes and the crew unloaded the large specimen . They poured water on it. “’Don’t get too close” warned Stevenson. Then a squid opened it’s beak like mouth and chewed on Phil Vasquez’s ’s leg as he measured it. “Ow!” Phil said Then Dr Stevenson beat it with a club Stevenson hit it in the head. It moaned and rolled over

Then Stevenson said’, let’“Okay everyone’s alight leave them alone, we need them alive ‘Oh my gosh!” he yelled bleeding he grabbed the gauze and wrapped his ankle. And lower leg.

He said This one is exactly twelve foot eight inches long and two thousand pounds.. The female was slightly smaller a mere ten foot six. inches and a thousand pounds. . Dr Mavis Director of Marine Biology Stevenson and his ship mate Phil Vasquez who was still a bit sore. Mavis went into the lab and a crew of fisherman on hand by order of Stevenson to retrieve the creatures.’s The fisherman hoisted them up and loaded the giant squids into the tank carefully and not getting in it’s path. The two squid bonded immediately. ‘Probably from the same family group” said Stevenson.

Stevenson said ‘The squids family members mate all the time, now we can see how they reproduce and grow” Ten weeks passed and the female was pregnant. You could tell, because she was now ten pounds heavier. As they watched in it’s final month the squid laid it’s thousands of eggs. There were thousands in the water and the mom stayed and fed them from her egg sacks. Then the baby squid were tested ands seemed normal. “Maybe it’s the scientific genetic testing and altering as well as the pollution in The Sea Of Cortez that makes them hostile” said Stevenson. Stevenson added “Now the babies seem normal to me” said Stevenson. So Stevenson selected a few babies and added fuel and experimented on their brains and they also put other associated toxins in the water and lo and behold the growing squid mutated, and became larger and larger becoming six feet in length in five days. They even began to fight one another. ‘Amazing!” said Mavis Director of Marine Biology ‘Yeah!” said ‘Stevenson knowingly. ‘Their tiny bodies can’t take the pollution” Stevenson said ‘These squid have an extra eye and instead of eight tentacles they have ten large tentacles! ‘How can we kill them?” asked the head scientist. ‘We either clean up the water, which is impossible or we use nets and capture the genetics before they reproduce. We can kill them all by using cyanide mixed with fuel. “Won’t that anger them?” asked Stevenson, ‘yes said Stevenson and kill all the fish, sharks, whales and dolphins too?. ‘Yes but we can contain that area and only kill the Giant Humbolt Squid where they conjugate. Stevenson said’This is top secret” and he walked into the secure room. The babies began to eat each other and fight. Stevenson said ““Maybe we can release the mutated babies when their twelve feet long, and they will seek out all mutated ones and they will destroy each other. Then we can put cyanide out and kill the larger mutated squid” ‘Great idea” said Stevenson happily.

The next night they made plans to go out. They took thirty more squids and genetically mutated them and then put them into fuel to stir them up. They watched them grow over the next week. The squid grew to be ten feet tall. Then they planned their attack. On Oct 4th they got into The Voyager and got the fish finder and found ten large males coming for the chum line they set. ‘I know their male, because their aggressive and so big” said Stevenson. Then they put cyanide in the fresh fish and they watched them gorge themselves on the fish. Then twenty began to die and floated on the water. As the rest arrived and got considerable closer and they dumped the mutated squid into the water and when the squid were livid with anger and genetically mutated they began to attack the normal squid with fierce animosity and they began to see the squid eat their counter-parts. Squid families were fighting one another as well as eating their children and the mutated ones were larger than the normal squid and they were annihilated until only five remained. Stevenson told the crew that they would gather the squid in one area and shot them. Then the fish finder went livid. The squid were there and large they had to move fast. . then Stevenson added “let’s put them all to rest, The squid were under the boat. ” and they dumped a large container of cyanide under the boat and as soon as it reached them it killed them. Then they sealed the area and had Waste cleanup clean all the giant squid from the surface as we’ll they sucked the contaminated cyanide into a water purifier and cleaned the water. They clapped had they really seen the last of the Giant Humbolt Squid?
