WHY ALL OF THE COMMERCIAL LINKS?

A FAIR question originally thought to be obvious, however, now deserving of an explanation.

I will try to address the “why” in a general manner to include the links this question targets (e.g., Interesting Links, Great Links, More GREAT LINKS, Affiliate Links), rather than explain each separately. I do not consider the "Public Service Links" nor the "Resources for Writers" to be commercial links.

I’ve found that many authors do not have a great deal of Internet experience (i.e., knowing what is out there and what might be useful in the individual promotion of their books and/or websites). So, with all due respect, I am trying to bring to them what might be useful, while saving them time.

Yes, there are a number of purely commercial links/banners with no connection to writing or writers promoting themselves. Anything which does NOT directly impact an authors Internet awareness level, promotion or functionality is for PURELY commercial reasons, i.e., Banyon provides a number of FREE services and is trying to earn money from affiliate sources rather than its authors. In time, we will see what works and doesn’t, then gradually refine the links. Some are just good deals we wish to share with our visitors (who are NOT all writers) and some I thought to be interesting or just FUN.

Every attempt has been made to clearly differentiate between the purely “writer” oriented/beneficial locations and/or materials and the purely “commercial,” and will be happy to accept any imput our visitors might wish to offer.

At all times, each link is believed to have the potential of being interesting or helpful to our visitors or it would not be on this site.

In closing, I might add that I have received a number of positive emails (a few dozen plus within the last 30 days) commenting on the variety and the "real people" feel of the links. I have received ONLY (1) one I thought to border on the negative, which actually asked the above question to trigger this open letter reply ("why all of the commercial links?"). The party wasn't complaining, nor did they remark with anything other than the question. I thought that "one" visitor's question was enough to require a public response, in addition to my private return email response. The reply I received back was a curious one ("Oh, okay, I was just asking. I love what you're doing and just had to ask."). I respect the honesty, but decided to write this public explanation anyway.

Thank you and enjoy your visit.
Jay
